Audi has had the medium fast estate market all to themselves with the RS4 Avant since the Merc C63 Estate went out of production. Well, no longer, as there’s finally an M3 estate!
For the first time, BMW has decided to add the full M treatment to the 3-Series Touring, and we expect this will be one seriously popular car. All the looks, power and driving prowess of the M3 but with a whole host of extra practicality.
The M3 Touring only comes in one version – the full-fat Competition version with the 503bhp and 650Nm twin turbo 3.0 litre straight-six engine, driven through the 8-speed auto gearbox. And you can only have it with BMW’s excellent xDrive AWD system, so you can put that power down in all weather conditions while still feeling like an RWD car when you want it to.
The looks are amazing, too, with the front end of the M3 and M4, with the M3’s pumped-up rear arches, but with the elegant estate roofline – there is just something super cool about a fast estate car!
The interior has now taken the infotainment and drive screens from the i4 and iX models, so there’s a massive curved screen atop the dash and the excellent iDrive 8 system – genuinely one of the best systems to use in the business.
