The SL has been part of the Mercedes line-up since the 1950s, always offering the very pinnacle of convertible style, performance and handling from the three-pointed star. Well, in 2022, we got a new SL, and it certainly isn’t letting down its ancestors!
The styling is very similar to the outgoing AMG GT, with a low nose, huge slatted grille and sleek LED headlights, while the body is a bit longer to accommodate the (small) rear seats that make the new SL so practical. One big change for this generation is that the roof is now fabric instead of folding metal, which helps lower the weight and centre of gravity.
The SL55 is powered by the incredible 4.0-litre twin turbo V8, producing 469bhp and 700Nm of torque, providing enough performance to thrill or just cruise along in comfort, enjoying the V8 sounds.
The interior of the SL55 takes everything very firmly into the future, though, with a look just like the new S-Class, featuring a massive centre console infotainment screen operating most of the controls and then a sleek, clutter-free dashboard with the best materials possible. The steering wheel is the latest AMG offering, and the seats are supremely supportive and comfortable.
