« Back Mercedes E53 AMG Coupe Night Edition Plus
Since the CLK63 finished production in 2010 there hasn’t been a proper AMG mid-sized coupe in the Mercedes lineup, which when the previous gen E-Class was such a great car with its monster V8, was considered a real shame. So we were happy when Mercedes announced the new E-Class Coupe was to finally get am AMG version, followed by slight disappointment that it’s not a ’63 V8 version.
But we need not be disappointed, because this new E53 Coupe may well be the best kept secret out there. To start with, it looks absolutely fantastic, with a swooping beltline and sleek rear end reminiscent of the S-Class Coupe and has a truly stunning interior.
But it’s under the skin where this E53 impresses most – there’s a turbocharged inline six cylinder engine which produces 429bhp and 520Nm, sent to all four wheels via a 9spd auto gearbox. That would be impressive enough, but the E53 has a 48v electronic architecture with ‘EQ Boost’ – meaning there’s electric assistance available which gives an extra 22bhp when required – and most importantly over 200Nm of torque more.
That gives effortless performance with the 4Matic AWD system and thanks to those four pipes a lovely exhaust sound too.
And as this is the Premium Plus Night Edition you get all the spec you could ever want - 20-inch alloys, panoramic roof, Burmester stereo, carbon interior trim, keyless entry, the list goes on.
