Morgan Plus Six

Morgan Plus Six

REVIEW

This is the all-new Morgan Plus Six – no, really it is, trust us – and heralds a new era for Morgan in many ways. It may look like every other Morgan from Plus 4 to Plus 8 but under that familiar skin sits a new generation of classic British sports car with more than a little help from the Germans. Sadly the BMW V8 previously used by Morgan is now out of production, so for this new model Morgan has taken the incredible 3.0 litre straight six turbo engine (yes, turbos in a Morgan!) from the M140i and stuck it under their louvred bonnet. That means 335bhp and 500Nm and at 1075kg, performance is incredible. 0-62mph takes just 4.2 seconds and it will top out at 166mph, which means it will now keep up with Porsches with ease. The chassis is a new wider and longer aluminium bonded platform meaning there is more leg and elbow room than before, but worry not there’s still an ash frame to support the body – traditions aren’t completely dead. Inside there’s a new dash that still retains a classic look, but the shifter for the ZF 8spd automatic gearbox is there along with a small screen ahead of the driver to give a small nod to technological advances. The new chassis and tech means that Morgan has been able to develop the suspension and handling to give secure, sporty driving along with comfort, so this could well be the consummate sports car – we just cannot wait to get behind the wheel and try it out.
