Dad who won £60,000 prize in draw thought it was a prank

Jan 2024

Amer Pervez said he got the shock of his life after receiving a video call from BOTB (Best of the Best) presenter Christian Williams, who surprised him with the news he was a One Day Special Competition winner.

Amer said: “I thought it was a prank!”

“I had a shiver down my spine and my hands were trembling. It still hasn’t sunk in.”

The 46-year-old said it couldn’t have come at a better time after spending a lot of money doing up his house.

“Financially, over the last seven months, I have been struggling and my life has been like a rollercoaster ride.

“Having three boys is not easy and I have spent a lot of money on my house. I have worked hard to get it done from top to bottom.

“I also lost my mum six months before I bought my house and my dad a year before that so things haven’t been easy.

“I don’t yet know exactly what I’m going to do with the money. I will probably spend it on finishing work around the house such as the garden and drive.

“I have also been involved in a couple of charities in the past so I would like to donate some money to at least one of them.”

The private hire driver, from Rochdale, who is a boyhood Manchester United fan and counts former player Robin van Persie among his famous passengers, is planning on becoming a chauffeur in the future.

He said: “It was a dream to meet him and a pleasure to pick him up.

“I have got my heart set on chauffeuring and have already started working towards achieving that dream.”

BOTB was founded by William Hindmarch in 1999 and has given away a whopping £64 million worth of cars so far.

Amer added: “I started playing with BOTB about two years ago and basically gave up because I thought I wasn't going to win.

“I then saw something online and started playing again in December. To win only a few weeks later is amazing. What a way to start the year."

Christian said: “Amer was clearly in shock when I told him and I am sure it will sink in when the £60,000 hits his bank account.

“It clearly has come at a good time for him and his family, and the fact that he is planning on donating some of the money to charity is a lovely gesture.”

TESTIMONIAL

I was absolutely shell shocked when I got a WhatsApp message from Christian. I assumed it was probably a mistake or prank until I received a video call and I was left shocked and couldn't believe it when faced by the man himself. From start to finish, the whole procedure was a shock, but the service from Christian and Vanessa left me breathless and still trying to get round to what just happened to me. I can't believe it and think it was a dream but they have been professional, polite, cheerful and a pleasure to speak to.
