We all lust after supercars, but we know that running one, even if you won it, could be financially crippling. Which is why the lower end cars in our competition tend to be just as popular as the high end ones. Players still win an incredibly desirable car, but one they can afford to run for a long time.

So we expect the new Alpina D3 BiTurbo to be very popular. Revealed in full after a teaser at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the BMW 3-Series based car has all the trademark Alpina cues, with some very surprising figures attached.

Powering the D3 BiTurbo is a twin turbo straight six diesel engine, producing a mammoth 345 bhp and 516 lb/ft of torque. This means the D3 is good for 0 – 62 mph in just 4.6 seconds and top speed is 173 mph. More impressive is that with these figures, it is also capable of 53.3 mpg combined and has CO2 emissions of just 139 g/km. Truly amazing for the performance.

The D3 BiTurbo is available in saloon and estate guise and features the Alpina trademark lower splitter, 19-inch multispoke alloy wheels and graphics. The D3 also features a quad exhaust at the rear. We think this could just be the best real world car available.

The D3 BiTurbo is priced at £46,950 for the saloon and £49,950 for the Touring and is on sale now.
