Ariel Motors has unveiled a new model today at the Autosport Show in Birmingham called the Nomad – a fast, nimble off road fun buggy that could well be the most fun you can have on four wheels.

Taking the chassis design seen on the Atom and extending it to a full roll cage, the Nomad boasts a heated windscreen to help against the elements, along with long travel suspension, large off road tyres and sleek bodywork.

Power is provided by a Honda-sourced 2.4 litre 4-cyl engine producing 235 bhp and 221 lb/ft. Combine this the 650 kg weight and the performance will be electrifying on or off road. 0 – 60 mph takes just 3.4 seconds and it has a 125 mph top speed.

The Nomad is only rear wheel drive, but Ariel believes that with the light weight and rear engined traction offered by the layout it should outperform all but the most serious off-road vehicles. Put it on a rally stage and it will embarrass a lot of much more expensive machinery too.

The best news is that the Nomad will also be road legal, so you can drive it to your local off roading centre, mountain pass, gravel track or even race track (with road tyres) and have all the fun you want.

The Nomad is on sale now for £30,000
