BMW has revealed the new high performance X5M and X6M ahead of the public debut at the upcoming LA Motor Show, taking the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Mercedes ML63 AMG directly in their sights.

Using the same twin turbo 4.4 litre V8 as the M5 and M6 models, it produces an incredible 564 bhp and 553 lb/ft of torque, which is 52 lb/ft more than the M5 and M6 get. They may still be weighty beasts at 2275 kg, but all this power and torque means that the X5M and X6M are no slouches.  0 – 62 mph takes just 4.2 seconds and they are limited to 155 mph (though this can be raised to 174 mph for a no doubt absurd amount of money). The power is fed through the standard eight speed automatic gearbox to all four wheels via a multi-plate clutch four wheel drive system that can send 100% of the power to either the front or rear axle.

The new M models take the revised looks of the new X5 and X6 and add the usual dose of M-aggression. A large lower intake is flanked by gaping side intakes, while there are wheelarch extensions and at the rear there are quad exhaust pipes in an aggressively sculpted rear bumper. A new design of 20- or 21-inch alloy wheels rounds off the package. Inside there are sports seats, lots of leather and a special M steering wheel, which just builds on the excellent interior already present in all X5 and X6 models.

The X5M and X6M go on sale in April next year priced at £90,179 and £93,070 respectively.
