We love the Mercedes S63 AMG Coupe. It has a crazy powerful V8, svelte looks and a soundtrack to shake mountains. But for some, their premium sports coupe can’t have 8 cylinders – it must have 12. Well luckily for them Mercedes has the resources and just enough bonkers people at the top (remember, they brought us the G63 AMG 6×6 too) to see a market for this and have for the last two generations added an S65 AMG Coupe to the lineup – and this generation now gets one too.

The S65 certainly trumps the S63 on all counts for those who want to rule the pub bragging rights – a twin turbocharged 6.0 litre V12 (similar to that found in the Pagani Huayra) producing 621 bhp and a mammoth 738 lb/ft of torque, which means 0 – 62 mph in 4.1 seconds and a limited top speed of 155 mph – rumour has it the S65 has topped 200 mph with ease on the autobahn though. One particular number potential owners won’t be so happy about is the price though – £183,065. Ouch.

The S65 AMG is distinguished from the S63 by having more chrome trim on the front, sides and rear of the car and unique 20-inch chromed alloy wheels. Pretty much every bit of technological kit possible is standard on the S65 though, which makes the price a little easier to swallow.

The order books open shortly and deliveries are expected at the end of the year.
