Ah, we do love a big V8 here at BOTB… Wait, what? The RS5 hasn’t got a V8 anymore? What is this madness?! Well, you can thank the environment mainly, as reduced emissions and increased efficiency is the driving force behind the current trend for downsizing. So out goes the 4.2 litre V8, and in comes a 2.9-litre twin-turbo V6 (also seen in the new Porsche Panamera 4S). Thankfully, it still produces the same 444bhp, but there’s more torque, and this new RS5 is lighter than the predecessor, too, which means performance is brisker.
0-62mph takes just 3.9 seconds, which is crazy fast, and there’s a 174mph if you buy the Audi Driver’s Pack Option. Visually, the RS5 takes it up a notch over the standard A5 with flared wheel arches, an aggressive front bumper and a rear diffuser flanked by the RS-standard oval exhaust pipes. There are multiple carbon fibre exterior bits you can spec at extra cost, all adding to the aggressive look. Of course, this is the RS5 Sportback model, so you get four doors and usable rear seats, but you still keep the coupe-like roofline.
The RS5 Coupe is a great handling car, and thankfully, the addition of another pair of doors does nothing to change this. Now, the RS5 gets a refresh, with a sleeker front end and little slats above the grille like on the RS6 and inside; it gets a few tweaks to screens and tech here and there, making this a fantastic proposition for a family that likes performance. But it doesn't stop there...
This is the Vorsprung model – which is basically an RS5 Sportback with every option ticked. All you have to choose is your colour, and you have one of the highest specified RS5s on the road!
