« Back Ford Ranger Raptor
The Ranger Raptor has been a hugely popular car since it was launched, bringing a flavour of the US-only F150 Raptor to our shores. But it was hampered by a fairly ordinary diesel powerplant and the Raptor look was added-on. Well, it seems Ford listened…
Because now we have the all-new Ranger Raptor and to the untrained eye this looks every bit as purposeful and aggressive as the F150 Raptor – it looks amazing! This is the first model to arrive for the new Ranger and it’s easy to see why – with the huge front end, massive FORD logo across the grille, powerful wheelarches, chunky alloys with off road tyres, lairy paint jobs – this looks the absolute business. Even the interior has had a major glow-up with figure hugging sports seats and a massive central infotainment screen.
But the changes are far more than just cosmetic – out goes the disappointing 2.0 litre diesel, because now the Raptor has a twin turbo 3.0 litre V6 petrol unit with 284bhp and 490Nm of torque – that gives the Raptor a serious shot of performance and a much better soundtrack too. It even features rally car-style anti-lag for better performance.
As with any Raptor, the chassis has been comprehensively revised to enhance off-road performance and durability, with chassis reinforcements throughout, extended-travel suspension with lower-friction Fox dampers and a 2.3mm-thick steel bash plate. Serious stuff.
