« Back Win an Ineos Grenadier Belstaff Fieldmaster Edition
Off road enthusiasts were up in arms in 2016 when the Land Rover Defender went out of production, even more so when the more upmarket new Defender arrived and they couldn’t hose out the interior.
But a British billionaire decided that if Land Rover won’t make a rugged, proper 4x4, he would, and so the Ineos Grenadier was born – and yes it looks a lot like the old Defender!
The influences in the design are obvious, but it takes in the Defender, old Landcruiser and even the Merc G-Wagen in areas – this really is a greatest hits of 4x4 heroes. It’s a very upright, boxy shape but everything has a purpose, from the chunky front bumper which can house a winch, to the bonnet tie-downs, door protection, functional and cool steel wheels, integrated roof ties, it really is a rugged machine designed to go anywhere.
The Grenadier has a pretty wild interior too, with a design that looks like a helicopter cockpit, with banks of big chunky buttons designed to be used while wearing gloves, a huge screen for your infotainment and even a massive bank of switches on the roof panel. There are roof light panels above driver and passenger too which adds to the airy feel of the cabin. And yes, farmers can be happy as the floor can be hosed out.
The Grenadier may look old tech, but it’s far from it underneath, with a choice of BMW 3.0 litre turbocharged engines in 246bhp/550Nm diesel or 281bhp/450Nm petrol versions. Same price - you choose!
This is the new 4x4 people have been waiting for and you could win one this week in the BOTB Dream Car Competition!
