It’s been a while since we had a performance C-Class estate in the competition, and thankfully now, it’s back!

It’s not the fire-breathing C63-S, but this is the AMG that most people want – the Mercedes-AMG C43 Estate – combining performance, practicality and economy in a super stylish package.

The latest C-Class is a great-looking car with sleek headlights, the now-standard AMG Panamericana grille and a deep front bumper, while the estate body is at least as pretty as the saloon but with a whole load of extra practicality. The rear looks particularly good with the big diffuser and quad exhaust tips. 20-inch wheels are standard too.

Under the bonnet sits a 2.0 litre 4-cylinder turbo engine (downsized from the old V6) which is linked to a mild hybrid system which adds a slight boost, combined they produce 416bhp and 500Nm of torque, which is sent to all four wheels via a 9-speed automatic gearbox. This means 0-62mph comes up in 4.7 seconds but also manages over 30mpg. Impressive stuff.

Even more impressive is the new interior of the C43, with a dash like the bigger S-Class. It has a massive portrait touchscreen and minimalist dash, and a style like no other. This being the Premium Plus model, you get every option already ticked.
