Back in 2001 Skoda was merely a maker of sturdy, reliable, roomy VW Group-based cars. But then they gave their Octavia a motorsport shot in the arm to create the Octavia vRS, a 180bhp hot hatch that quickly gained a cult following for its great performance, value and tuning potential.
At the top of the Skoda tree sits their biggest SUV – the Kodiaq – and it is this model that has now been given a shiny vRS badge and a whole heap of performance to boot. Under the bonnet sits a 2.0 litre turbo petrol engine producing 262hp and 370Nm – that’s enough to propel this 7-seat SUV to 62mph in 6.4 seconds while still returning over 30mpg.
The exterior looks are beefed up with a nice set of aero-optimised 20-inch alloys and new, more aggressive bumpers, while inside there’s black alcantara with diamond pattern stitched in red and carbon effect dash panel which really lifts it and makes it feel special.
The versatility of the 7-seat layout is unparalleled too, so what Skoda have created is a do-it-all machine – looks great, performs well and is supremely practical. We’ll take one in red please!
