« Back Ford Puma ST-Line X 155
For those of you over the age of 30, you probably remember the Ford Puma as a cute little coupe from the 90’s, back when car manufacturers actually made small, interesting, cheap sports cars.
So it’s no great surprise that when the Puma name made a comeback, it was now in the form of a small SUV/crossover – after all they are the biggest selling type of car world-over right now.
Given that it goes up against the Nissan Juke, Ford really has knocked it out of the park with the styling – curvaceous hips, powerful haunches, wide arches – it genuinely does look like a pouncing cat. And we dare you to look at that front end and not be happy – it looks like a smiling cartoon character!
This ST-Line X model has sports suspension and 18” wheels for sporty handling, while under the bonnet sits a tiny 1.0 litre three cylinder turbo engine that’s also a mild hybrid. That means there’s a 48v battery and a tiny motor to assist the engine and helps with performance AND economy – a win-win.
The upshot is 153bhp and 240Nm of torque (50Nm of that is thanks to the motor) which gives more than enough performance for a car like this and a lovely off-beat 3cyl thrum.
Interior is the usual Ford, with clear digital instruments and a great seating position, along with wireless charging, red stitching and a B&O stereo.
The perfect family car that’s also a hoot to drive down some back roads – yes please!
